The Ritz-Carlton has announced the opening of its new hotel in Fukuoka, Japan. Situated in the tallest tower of Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City, the luxury hotel brings the brand's exceptional service and modern design to one of Japan's rapidly growing cities. Fukuoka is known for its vibrant start-up scene, rich history, cultural traditions, and renowned culinary culture.
Tina Edmundson, President of Luxury for Marriott International, expressed excitement about the opening of the seventh Ritz-Carlton hotel in Japan. The brand has been highly regarded for its exceptional luxury and service since its introduction in Japan in 1997, earning the admiration of both locals and tourists. The decision to establish a presence in Fukuoka, a new and developing destination, reflects Marriott's commitment to enhancing its luxury offerings in the country.
Fukuoka used to be an important stop on the Silk Road trade routes and is still a major gateway between Japan and the rest of Asia. The city is known for its annual festivals, including the Hakata Gion Yamakasa summer festival, which has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and has a history of 800 years. Fukuoka also offers attractions such as beautiful beaches, natural parks, and historical sites like the Shofukuji temple from the 12th century and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is located near Tenjin, which is the vibrant center of the city and a growing tech hub with various shops, bars, cafés, and nightlife. It takes about 15 minutes by car or public transportation to reach Hakata Station, Hakata Port, or Fukuoka Airport, which provide connections to Tokyo.
The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is located on the highest nine floors of a 25-story glass tower designed by Kume Sekkei from Tokyo. The hotel's interior design and artwork, overseen by Layan Architects + Designers based in Melbourne, draw inspiration from Fukuoka's traditional craft of yarn-dyed silk and kimono weaving, known as "Hakata-ori". Local artisans have contributed folding screens, sculptures, paintings, and woven textiles that are seamlessly integrated into the overall design. Guests at the hotel can enjoy stunning views of the Genkai Sea and surrounding hills, creating a unique and memorable atmosphere.
The hotel has 167 guestrooms on the 19th to 23rd floors, which are quite spacious at 50 square meters. There are also 20 suites available, starting at around 550 square feet. The Fukuoka Skyline rooms have beautiful views of the city, while the Park View rooms overlook the greenery of Ohori Park. The Bay View rooms offer guests a glimpse of the passing ships in Hakata Bay and beyond. The Presidential Suite is nearly 1,500 square feet, while the Ritz-Carlton Suite is over 2,000 square feet. Both suites have a dining room and kitchen for guests to enjoy private meals. On the topmost floor of the hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Club is available exclusively for guests staying in club and suite categories. The club offers five culinary presentations throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, hors d'oeuvres, and cordials. It also has a bar and a private room, making it a convenient venue for business and social gatherings. Every Saturday night, there are live jazz performances for guests to enjoy. Additionally, the hotel offers a dedicated concierge service to ensure personalized care for guests, starting from before their arrival until their departure.
