The Ritz-Carlton has made its debut in Fukuoka, Japan. The luxury hotel is located in the main tower of Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City, which is the tallest urban lifestyle complex in the city's commercial district. The Ritz-Carlton aims to bring its excellent service and modern style to Fukuoka, a rapidly growing city known for its start-up scene and rich history, traditions, and culinary culture.
Tina Edmundson, President of Luxury for Marriott International, expressed her excitement about the opening of the seventh Ritz-Carlton hotel in Japan. Since its introduction in 1997, The Ritz-Carlton brand has gained a reputation for its exceptional luxury and service, which has made it popular among both locals and tourists in Japan. The expansion into Fukuoka allows the brand to enhance its presence in the country and explore a new and promising destination.
Fukuoka used to be an important stop on the Silk Road trade routes, and it still serves as a major connection between Japan and the rest of Asia. The city is well-known for its annual festivals, such as the Hakata Gion Yamakasa summer festival, which has been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Visitors can also enjoy its stunning beaches, natural parks, and historical sites like the Shofukuji temple from the 12th century and the Fukuoka Castle ruins. The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is conveniently located next to Tenjin, the lively center of the city, which is becoming a hub for technology and is filled with shops, bars, cafes, and nightlife. The area is only a 15-minute drive or public transportation ride away from Hakata Station, Hakata Port, or Fukuoka Airport, providing easy access to Tokyo.
The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is located on the top nine floors of a 25-story glass tower that was designed by Kume Sekkei from Tokyo. Layan Architects + Designers, based in Melbourne, were in charge of overseeing the hotel's interior design and art, which were inspired by Fukuoka's traditional craft of yarn-dyed silk and kimono weaving known as "Hakata-ori". The design of the hotel incorporates folding screens, sculptures, paintings, and woven textiles created by local artisans. These elements are seamlessly integrated into the overall design of the hotel. Guests can enjoy expansive views of the Genkai Sea and the surrounding hills, providing a unique and memorable experience.
The hotel has 167 spacious guestrooms ranging from 50 square meters to 550 square feet, including 20 suites. Guests can choose between Fukuoka Skyline rooms with city views, Park View rooms with views of Ohori Park, or Bay View rooms with a view of Hakata Bay. The Presidential Suite and Ritz-Carlton Suite are even larger, with dining rooms and kitchens for private meals. On the top floor of the hotel, The Ritz-Carlton Club is a private space for guests staying in club and suite categories. It offers five dining options throughout the day, as well as a bar and private room for business and social gatherings. Saturday nights feature live jazz performances, and a dedicated concierge service is available to assist guests from the moment they book until they leave.

The hotel has four restaurants and two bars that showcase the diverse food culture of Fukuoka. Viridis offers creative Western cuisine made from locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Genjyu is a stylish restaurant that highlights three of Japan's finest culinary traditions: kaiseki, sushi, and teppanyaki. The Lobby Lounge & Bar is a welcoming space where guests can enjoy refreshments and light meals throughout the day. Bay, inspired by the ships passing through Hakata Bay, offers original cocktails, chargrilled dishes, and tapas with stunning views from its terrace. Diva is a relaxed café that serves light meals, delicious desserts, and afternoon tea featuring the renowned green teas of Kyushu.
Situated on the 24th floor, the Ritz-Carlton Spa offers various amenities for guests to enjoy. These include an indoor swimming pool that provides a stunning view of the bay, a gymnasium that offers exceptional city views, and private rooms for individuals or couples seeking luxurious treatments. The spa uses local ingredients and products from ESPA to provide indulgent experiences. Additionally, the hotel provides child-friendly amenities and activities through their Ritz Kids program. This program includes guided excursions and craft experiences that focus on nature, exploration, responsibility, and culture to make the destination more engaging for young travelers.
The hotel has two banquet venues on the third floor that can be easily adjusted to fit different types of events like breakout sessions, board meetings, and other gatherings. The Ritz-Carlton Studio is 1,100 square feet in size, while the Ritz-Carlton Ballroom is 3,600 square feet. The Ballroom is equipped with a LED screen that allows for impressive film and video presentations. Additionally, the hotel also has a Chapel on the third floor that combines Western and Japanese elements for wedding ceremonies.
Radu Cernia, the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka, expressed excitement about the opening of the hotel. He mentioned the highly skilled team of employees who are dedicated to providing excellent service to guests. Whether guests are visiting to experience the local start-up scene or to immerse themselves in Fukuoka's unique culture and cuisine, the hotel aims to create an unforgettable experience for them.
