The Ritz-Carlton has made its debut in Fukuoka, Japan. The luxury hotel is located in the tallest building in the city's commercial district and brings the brand's exceptional service and modern style to a city known for its growing start-up scene and rich history and culture.
Tina Edmundson, President of Luxury for Marriott International, expressed her excitement about the opening of The Ritz-Carlton's seventh hotel in Japan. She mentioned that since The Ritz-Carlton made its debut in Japan in 1997, it has gained a reputation for its exceptional luxury and service, loved by both locals and tourists. Edmundson is looking forward to solidifying the brand's luxury presence in Japan by venturing into the emerging destination of Fukuoka.
Fukuoka used to be an important stop along the Silk Road trade routes and continues to be a significant gateway between Japan and the rest of Asia. The city is known for its annual festivals, like the Hakata Gion Yamakasa summer festival, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an important part of cultural heritage. In addition to its festivals, Fukuoka is also famous for its beautiful beaches, natural parks, and historic sites such as the Shofukuji temple from the 12th century and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is conveniently located near Tenjin, the trendy center of the city, which is filled with shops, bars, cafes, and nightlife. This area is just a 15-minute drive or public transportation ride away from Hakata Station, Hakata Port, and Fukuoka Airport, which provide transportation connections to Tokyo.
The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is located on the top nine floors of a 25-story glass building designed by Kume Sekkei from Tokyo. The hotel's interior design and artwork, overseen by Layan Architects + Designers based in Melbourne, draw inspiration from Fukuoka's traditional craft of yarn-dyed silk and kimono weaving known as "Hakata-ori". The overall design narrative incorporates folding screens, sculptures, paintings, and woven textiles created by local artisans. From the hotel, guests can enjoy expansive views of the Genkai Sea and surrounding hills, providing a unique and memorable experience.
The hotel has 167 spacious guestrooms on the 19th to 23rd floors, with an average size of 50 square meters. There are also 20 suites available, starting at approximately 550 square feet. Fukuoka Skyline rooms offer expansive views of the city, while Park View rooms overlook the lush greenery of Ohori Park. Bay View rooms provide guests with a sight of the ships passing through Hakata Bay and beyond. The Presidential Suite, spanning nearly 1,500 square feet, and the Ritz-Carlton Suite, over 2,000 square feet in size, both feature a dining room and kitchen for private meals.
Located on the topmost floor, the 24th floor, The Ritz-Carlton Club is a exclusive space for guests staying in the club and suite categories. Five culinary experiences are offered daily, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, hors d'oeuvres, and cordials. The Ritz-Carlton Club also has a bar and a private room, making it a convenient venue for business and social gatherings. Live jazz performances take place every Saturday night, and a dedicated concierge service ensures that guests receive personalized care from the moment of booking until their departure.
