Surya Murtis
Bihar is known for its tradition of worshipping the sun. It is the only region where this practice is carried out in the form of Chhath Puja. Numerous temples dedicated to the sun can be found throughout Bihar.
In certain villages, Surya Murtis, which are statues representing the sun god, have been discovered either in village ponds or through unplanned excavations. A collection of exceptional Surya Murtis can be observed at the Bihar Museum in Patna.
There is a vivid memory I have of a large sculpture depicting the Sun being carried on a chariot pulled by seven horses.
